Misc. Carter Info
Carter carburetors all came with an ID tag, typically attached to one of the bowl screws. Some Carter carbs also had the ID number stamped into the surface of the carb body.
All Carter carbs use a xxxS or xxxxS identification system. You’ll see S, SA, SB, SC, and SD which are all design change notations and in the case of rebuild kits typically does not matter.
The exception are Carter B&B models which will often use a “letter-number-letter-number” notation.
In all cases, markings such as 0-xxx, 1-xxx, 6-xxx are casting codes and will not correspond with parts. We can not use these numbers to identify rebuild kits or parts.
If the ID tag is missing and you are unable to locate a stamped number, we can help match kits and rebuild parts by comparing the existing parts. To do so we need detailed pictures and dimensions of the internal parts. We can not match parts and kits based on the outside of a carburetor.
In some photos you’ll see the ID tag or stamped circled to help you locate them.
