DISASSEMBLY

REMOVAL OF THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove six body to bowl screw and lockwasher assemblies.
  2. Raise throttle body slightly and separate bowl to body gasker from flange of fuel bowl; then lift throttle body assembly clear of fuel bowl assembly, being careful to avoid damaging float assembly.

DISASSEMBLY OF THROTTLE BODY

  1. Invert throttle assembly. Remove float axle by pressing screwdriver against axle at slotted side of float hinge bracket to free axle from slotted end of bracket. Then remove axle with fingers from opposite side of bracket.
  2. Remove float assembly, bowl to body gasket and fuel valve needle.
  3. Remove fuel valve seat and fiber washer.
  4. To remove pump assembly, press downward against spring and withdraw piston, by sharply striking upper piston against retainer to loosen it from throttle body.
  5. Remove idle jet from passage in surface of throttle body (near fuel valve seat), using a small screwdriver.
  6. Remove venturi retaining screw from side of throttle body and lift out venturi.
  7. Invert throttle body and remove idle adjusting needle and friction spring from side of throttle body.
  8. Back out throttle stop screw to permit throttle to close fully; then scribe across throttle body and throttle lever as a guide to correct reassembly.
  9. File off riveted end of throttle plate screws and remove throttle plate screw and lockwasher assembles, throttle plate, and throttle shaft and lever assembly.
  10. Remove throttle shaft hole plug by inserting long punch or rod through opposite shaft hole and driving out plug.
  11. To remove throttle shaft seal and retainer, screw threaded end of extractor in retainer until firmly seated, then drive our extractor with retainer and seal from opposite side. Remove seal and retainer from extractor.

NOTE: Do not remove needle bearing assemblies unless damaged or replacement is necessary due to excessive direct or carbon deposit. Make sure that new bearing assemblies are available before removing old bearings.

  1. To remove needle bearing, screw threaded end of extractor into bearing assembly until firmly fastened and then drive out extractor with bearing from opposite side of throttle body. Remove bearing from extractor.
  2. Repeat above operation to remove bearing from opposite end of throttle body.
  3. Remove fuel connector and screen assembly, using open end wrench.
