1939 and later WDO dual climatic control carburetor with vacuum operated metering rod and Carter starter switch

Notes before you get started:

  1. Clean casting and all parts thoroughly, except cork pieces and coil housing assembly.

  2. On 1937 and 1938 models, pump relief passage to outside must be clear of all obstruction

  3. On 1935 and 1936 carburetors, metering rod setting is made by bending throttle connector rod at lower end. On 1937 and later models, pump setting must be mad ebfore adjusting metering rods. Set pump by bending lower end of connector rod. Set metering rods by means of lock screw on anti-percolator arm. Both metering rods should be synchronized before makign this adjustment.

DISASSEMBLY

  1. Remove throttle shaft arm and screw assembly and fast idle connector link

  1. Remove air horn with all parts attached.

Attaching screw in air horn beneath choke valve must be removed

  1. Disconnect throttle connector rod at upper end and remove bowl cover, with vacuum piston and link assembly and all attached parts.

Remove bowl cover gasket and vacuum piston spring.

  1. Remove both anti-percolator valve assemblies. (Omit when servicing Buick 440S)

  1. Remove both pump jet plugs and pump jets.

All metering jets in dual carburetors are in duplicate. Illustrations shows remove of only one.

  1. Remove both by-pass bleeder plugs and low speed jets.

Some carburetors have low speed tubes pressed in place and must not be removed

  1. Remove both metering rod jet and gasket assemblies.

In most cases, gaskets are not installed on reassembly.

  1. Remove pump discharge ball retainer plug and check ball.

  1. Remove pump strainer, pump check ball retainer ring and check ball.

  1. Remove nozzle passage plugs, nozzle retainer plugs and nozzles.

See that small nozzle gaskets are removed from casting.

  1. Separate body flange assembly from body.

Remove body flange gasket.

  1. Loosen terminal cap attaching screw and remove entire switch assembly from body casting.

  1. Remove idle adjustment screws and springs and idle port plugs

  1. Remove throttle valve screws and throttle valves

NOTE: If the throttle shaft moves freely, you don’t necessarily need to remove the throttle plates and shafts

  1. Remove throttle centering screw, then throttle shaft and lever assembly.

Check shaft wear, loose lever and throttle rod holes in lever for wear.

  1. Remove switch strainer retainer ring and strainer
