THROTTLE BODY SCREWS

On 1979 models a third attaching screw has been added to the throttle body to secure the throttle body to the float bowl on all models. This is to provide improved sealing for evaporative emission standards.
REMOVING AND REPLACING IDLE MIXTURE SCREWS

Remove idle mixture needle and plug as follows:
- Using a punch between the two locator points in throttle body beneath idle mixture needle plug (manifold side), break out throttle body to gain access to the idle mixture needle plug. Then, drive out hardened steel plug covering mixture needle.
- NOTE: Hardened plug will shatter rather than remaining intact. It is not necessary to remove the plug completely; instead, remove loose pieces to allow use of idle mixture adjusting tool or standard deep socket.
- Using deep socket, remove idle mixture needle, washer, and spring from throttle body. Repeat procedure a and b for remaining idle mixture needle.
Install idle mixture needle, washer, and spring using idle mixture adjusting tool or deep socket. Lightly seat needle and then back out specified number of turns as a preliminary idle mixure adjustment. Final idle mixture adjustment must be made on-car using factory recommended procedures.
