We get a lot of inquiries like this. Tractor will run for 3-5 minutes then cut out. Typically if you take it back to idle for 30 seconds it’ll recover and go back to full throttle, etc.

• If you have a gravity fed fuel system, then the needle may not be opening as it should. It’s been a problem with the Marvel Schebler and the lousy gas we now have.
• Wipe the viton tip on the needle with mineral spirits.
• Check the viton tip for any scoring. This happens when the float is adjusted and too much pressure is put on the needle. Scoring will cause the needle to stick.
• Make sure there are no kinks or restrictions in the fuel line leading to the carb.
• Is there a clip that attaches the needle to the float? That helps pull the needle out when the float drops. Not all needles have a clip attachment.
• Check the gas tank vent and be sure it is fully open.
• If a mechanical fuel pump is being used, test for consistant/correct pressure.
• If the carb is on a piece of equipment with the fuel take located above the engine, check to see if the tank is getting hot due to percolation. This will cause the fuel to boil.
• Make sure the fuel filter is clean and that the pipe coming from the fuel tank to the filter is not corroded inside or restricted.
• Run a fine wire through the various jets and orifices in the carburetor and follow up with compressed air if available.
