SEPARATION OF THROTTLE AND BOWL BODY ASSEMBLIES

  1. Remove large hex plug (17), filter body (20), screen (19) and two fiber washers (18) and (21) from side of throttle body, using a 5/16” wrench.

NOTE: Some 63AW10, 63AW11, and 63AW12 models have a 1/16” hex plug with filter assembly located on top of the fuel bowl and not as side as described. Other models have a 5/8” fuel connection with screen attached.

  1. Remove six throttle body to bowl screw and lockwasher assemblies (1), using a 3/8” or 7/16” wrench or large screwdriver.

NOTE: 63AW10 uses four round head screws, 63AW11 and 63AW12 use six round head screws in place of hex head screws.

  1. Pry throttle body assembly up slightly from fuel bowl and loosen gasket from fuel bowl, then lift off throttle body being careful to avoid damaging float assembly.

DISASSEMBLY OF THROTTLE BODY

  1. Invert throttle body and remove bowl to body gasket (29) from machined surface of throttle body, then remove pump assembly (66) by striking upper vacuum piston sharply against piston retainer in throttle body recess.
  2. Press screwdriver against end of float axle (27) at slotted side of float hinge bracket and force axle through bracket, then remove axle from float bushing and other half of bracket with fingers.
  3. Remove float assembly (28) and fuel valve needle (part of 26).
  4. Remove fuel valve seat (26) and fiber washer (25), using C161-85 wrench on 63AW10, 63AW11, and 63AW12 models. Use 5/8” socket for models 63AW14 and 63AW16.
  5. Remove idle jet (24) from passage near fuel valve seat, using small screwdriver.
  6. Remove idle adjusting needle (22) and spring (23) from side of throttle body.
  7. Remove large hex plug (68) with fiber washer (67) from side of throttle body opposite fuel inlet, using a 5/8” wrench.

NOTE: Plug used only with 63AW14 and 63AW16 models.

  1. Remove venturi set screw (70) and lockwasher (69) from side of throttle body.

NOTE: Set screw used on with models 63AW14 and 63AW16. Then remove primary and secondary venturi assembly (32) from throttle bore as a unit.

  1. Remove hex plugs (74) and (16) from sides of throttle body near mounting flange, using a 7/16” wrench.
  2. File off rivited end of throttle plate screws flush with throttle shaft, being careful not to damage throttle plate or throttle bore.
  3. Back out throttle plate stop screw (11) until threaded end of screw is flush with lever, then close throttle and mark aross throttle body and all levers as a guide to correct reassembly of parts.
  4. Loosen throttle lever clamp screw (12) and remove clamp lever from shaft.

NOTE: If throttle lever and throttle stop lever are riveted together, omit this operation.

  1. On models which include a floating lever, loosen floating lever clamp screw and remove floating lever.
  2. Remove throttle plate screws (3), throttle plate (4) and then remove throttle shaft and lever assembly from throttle body.
  3. Remove lever bushing taper pin. (72) and lever bushing (71) if used.
  4. Remove throttle shaft packing (7) and packing retainer (8) as follows: Screw a fine thread tap into packing retainer until firmly seated, then insert long punch or rod through opposite shaft hole and drive punch or rod against end of tap until retainer is free of body. Remove retainer and packing from tap.
  5. Repeat above operation to remove second retainer and packing from opposite shaft hole.

NOTE: Do not remove throttle shaft bushings unless inspection indicates replacement is necessary. For removal and replacement of throttle shaft bushings refer to “Replacement of bushings” under “Re-assembly” section.

  1. Remove pick up tube jet (75) from inside throttle bore near mounting flange, using a screwdriver.

NOTE: Pick up jet used only with 63AW14 and 63AW16 models.

DISASSEMBLY OF FUEL BOWL

  1. Remove main jet adjustment (46) and fiber washer (45) from side of fuel bowl body, using a 1/2” or a 5/8” wrench, as required.

NOTE: Some models have either a 1/2” or a 5/8” plug in place of the main jet adjustment.

  1. Remove large hex plug (49) and fiber washer (48) from bottom outside of fuel bowl, using a 7/16” or a 1/2” wrench, as required.
  2. Remove small hex plug (52) from outside bottom of air intake section, using 7/16” wrench.
  3. Remove power and accelerating jet (50) and fiber washer (47) from threaded angle passage in outside bottom of fuel bowl, using screwdriver.
  4. Remove main jet (44) and fiber washer (43) from threaded passage in bottom side of fuel bowl, using C161-1 main jet wrench for main jets that are used with main jet adjustment or C161-82 main jet wrench for standard size main jets.
  5. Remove main discharge jet (65) and fiber washer (64) from center of large opening in machined surface of fuel bowl, using C161-9 wrench for models 63AW10, 11, and 12; or C161-10 for models 63AW14, and 16.
  6. Remove well vent jet (34) from venter of large opening in fuel bowl, using C161-80 well vent wrench on models 6AW14 and 16. For models 63AW 10, 11, and 12, use a screwdriver.
  7. Remove power jet valve (33) from bottom of pump cylinder, using C161-121 wrench.
  8. To remove accelerating pump check valve assembly (35), insert tapered thread end of C161-15 extractor into check vale and screw IN (counter-clockwise) until tool is firmly fastened into check valve body, then strike bent end of tool upwards with light hammer and withdraw check valve body from fuel bowl. Remove check valve disc from passage beneath check valve body.
