To thoroughly overhaul the carburetor, it must be completely disassembled and each part must be checked for wear, deterioration, and damage. Then the unit must be carefully rebuilt and properly adjusted to insure satisfactory operation. The following overhaul procedure is easily accomplished using factory approved special carburetor tools. These tools are strongly recommended for use on parts which could be damaged by ordinary tools. However, if special tools are not available this carburetor can be overhauled using ordinary tools with a reasonable amount of care. Holley carburetor tools are not available aftermarket, and we do not have used ones.
Use separate container for the parts and castings of the three major subassemblies: the air horn assembly, the main body assembly, and the throttle body assembly. This procedure will facilitate cleaning, inspection and reassembly.
Remove the float pin (1) from the float lever bracket and remove float and lever assembly (2).
Remove the fuel inlet needle (3), remove fuel inlet seat (4) and gasket (5).
Remove the screw (6) and washer (7) holding the choke lever (8) to the airhorn. Removal of the choke lever will release the plunger (9) and plunger spring (10) for removal.
Remove the two choke plate screws (11) and remove the choke plate (12)
Remove the choke shaft lever assembly (13) and choke shaft spring (14).
Slide the accelerating pump assembly out of the main body. By depressing the pump spring (3) and washer (2) and sliding the pump rod (1) arm out of the slot in the piston stem (4) the entire assembly will come apart.
Remove screw (5), washer (6), throttle kicker (7), and throttle kicker spring (9). From throttle kicker remove adjusting screw (8).
Remove screws and lockwashers (10) and nozzle bar clamps (11).
