The WW float is used to maintain the correct level of gas while idling and at high speed. Fuel enters at the fuel inlet. As gas is used, the float drops allowing the needle valve to pull out of the seat, allowing gas to enter the bowl. Once the bowl is at the correct height, the float raises and the needle cuts off the gas flow.
The vent tube is used to vent the float bowl. This vents the bowl vapors and keeps the float bowl at an even atmospheric pressure. Without a vent, gas would get siphoned out of the bowl more than needed.

The clip that connects the inlet needle to the float on a Stromberg WW carburetor is called a float hanger or a float needle clip. It serves two important purposes:
Secures the Inlet Needle: The clip firmly holds the inlet needle in place, preventing it from detaching or vibrating excessively. This ensures the needle remains properly positioned within the carburetor seat to regulate fuel flow.
Allows Float Movement: While the clip secures the needle, it also allows the float to pivot freely within the carburetor bowl. As the fuel level rises in the bowl, the float moves up, pushing the attached inlet needle against its seat. This shuts off fuel flow when the fuel reaches the desired level.

The other end of the clip usually has a spring mechanism or a small loop that secures the inlet needle's top portion.
Without the float hanger clip, the inlet needle could potentially detach or move erratically, causing issues like:
Fuel overflow: If the needle isn't held securely against the seat, fuel might continue to flow even when the bowl is full, leading to flooding and engine problems.
Inconsistent fuel level: A loose or improperly positioned needle can affect the carburetor's ability to maintain a stable fuel level, resulting in poor engine performance.
It's important to ensure the float hanger clip is properly installed and in good condition. A damaged or worn clip might need replacement to maintain optimal carburetor function.
